Doctoral Fellowship at the Mandel Scholion Center For the Years 2025-2028

 

The Mandel Scholion Interdisciplinary Research Center is now calling for applications for a three-year doctoral fellowship in "Rethinking Parenthood: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives." The fellows will be part of a research group devoted to this theme that will operate from October 2025 until September 2028 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

We welcome candidates with excellent research qualifications and an interest in the topic from a wide range of fields in the Humanities and Social Studies. The Mandel Scholion Research Center is a center for excellence in interdisciplinary studies. It seeks to foster a wide range of critical approaches and welcomes candidates whose research represents the broad reach of human endeavor. Four candidates will be chosen to take part in the group’s work.

Terms and Conditions:

  • MA students who wish to be candidates for the scholarship must register by July 1st, 2025, with the Authority for Research Students as conditional research students for the 2025-2026 academic year. These students are required to complete all their study obligations by September 30th, 2025, and submit confirmation of eligibility for the degree by December 31st, 2025. Students who do not complete their MA studies (including receiving a grade on their thesis) by January 1st, 2026, will have their scholarship revoked.
  • The recipients of the scholarship must register by October 2025 as doctoral students at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
  • The recipients of the scholarships will enjoy excellent working conditions for the three years of the scholarship at the Mandel Scholion Center at the University’s Mount Scopus campus. This includes office space close to the project leaders and a yearly grant of about 78,000 NIS, an annual research budget, and tuition subject to the rules and regulations of the Hebrew University bylaws for doctoral fellowships.
  • The recipients will be expected to devote these three years to writing their doctoral dissertations and to contribute to the group's research products. They are expected to be present at the Mandel Scholion Center four days a week and to participate in the activities of the group and of the Center, which is an interdisciplinary research center devoted to the promotion of excellence in a wide spectrum of disciplines.
  • The recipients of the scholarship are not permitted to engage in additional work during this period, other than teaching or a research assistantship at the Hebrew University.

Eligibility:

Students who will be registered as Ph.D students in October 2025 at the Hebrew University may apply.

Application:

  1. Confirmation of their status as a doctoral student at HUJI in Fall 2025, for active doctoral students.
  2. Research proposal. Please submit the proposal approved by the research authority. If the proposal has not yet been approved, please submit it, or a short description of the planned project for the dissertation (up to 3 pages).
  3. Research statement (up to 2 pages), with a focus on how the candidate’s research can contribute to the work of the group and be enriched by it.
  4. CV (up to 2 pages).
  5. Two recommendations from scholars familiar with the applicant and their work that will be submitted to the application website email, according to the following instructions. The recommendation must be signed on official letterhead.
  6. Official transcripts of BA and MA.
