Dana Kaplan is a cultural sociologist specializing in middle class cultures in Israel, with a specific focus on aesthetics, spirituality, embodiment and sexuality as new forms of immaterial labour. She was a visiting scholar at NYU and City University, London and is regularly based at the Department of Sociology, Political Science and Communication, The Open University, where she teaches sociology, gender studies and food studies. In one of her current research projects, funded by the Israeli Science Foundation, she investigates the cultural history of beauty in Israel. Her article Jewish New Age and the Middle Class: Jewish Identity Politics in Israel under Neoliberalism (co-authored by R. Werczberger)  was awarded an ISSR (International Society for the Sociology of Religion) 2019 Best Article.
