Rishona is a Ph.D student in the Graduate Program in Folklore and Folk Culture Studies. She graduated from the Bar Ilan University with a B.A. in the Department of Land of Israel Studies and Sociology & Anthropology, and from the Hebrew University with an M.A. in the Graduate Program in Folklore and Folk Culture Studies. Rishona’s doctoral research, written under the supervision of Dr. David Rotman, explores the documentation and evolution of the ritual and lore of the Bene Israel of India after their immigration to Israel. This work is the direct continuation of her thesis, which examined the "Miracle Sukkah" of the community as an extraordinary folkloric expression embodying the complex migration and absorption processes particular to the Bene Israel, which was negotiated through the ritual. Rishona has served as a research fellow at the Cherrick Center for the Study of Zionism, the Yishuv, and the State of Israel during the years 2022-2024 and at the Ben Zvi Institute for the Study of Jewish Communities in the East in the years 2023-2024. She is Dr. David Rotman's research assistant, and in his research project, she examines the current and evolving expressions of Rachel the Matriarch cult, funded by the Israel Science Foundation.
